Hello! If we haven't met, my name is Kyoko Mogami! I noticed the research center is offering money for new recipes, but it seems like they want it to be some kind of team effort? In any case, I already had some notes written up about some of the dishes I've been able to make satisfactorily since I got here, so if anybody would like to help me with the taste testing and descriptions, I can neaten up those recipes for submission. And of course we would split the compensation! Oh, but I've also gotten some additions to my replicator since I wrote down those other recipes, so I can do a lot more now! So far I have kombu, bonito flakes, miso, soy sauce, sake, and tofu! So if you want to try something that's not in the notes, just tell me what it is! Nikujaga would be nice, right? Um, I suppose I am, if "Japanese" is a culture from your world. The ingredients are used in some dishes of my own, is all. What a coincidence!

Would that be a soup with sandwiches in it? Or a sandwich with soup in it? You're really pushing me to innovate today....

Oh no!! Excuse me! I think I've been spoiled by all the versions of Japan I keep hearing exist, since I got here. I shouldn't have just assumed like that!

[ Around the next meal time, Sasuke makes his way towards Kyoko's place. He sent off a quick message as he said he would, but his arrival is delayed a minute or two. Mr. Tori had flown off to grab a brightly colored flower. He holds it in his beak as Sasuke knocks. ]

Hello? It's Sasuke and Mr. Tori.

Why not make both? I'd eat both!

Well... to tell the truth, I didn't get to attend them very often, so it's hard to say I have a particular favorite. ^^;; But Gion is coming up, now that I think about it! That one was a big deal in my hometown. Let's go with that! There's something happening pretty much every day of the month, but the parades are supposed to be the main event; every year, a boy is chosen to be paraded around town, and he isn't allowed to set foot on the ground from the 13th to the 17th, after the procession is over. It's a purification ritual to ward off plagues! But it's really all about showing off the beautiful floats. The real draw is probably the three nights of festivals leading up to it, when the streets are closed for food stalls and games, that kind of thing. Old rich families will let people peek into their homes and see their heirlooms, too. It's a really busy time!

I don't really expect anyone to make it, so just let me know anytime you need some. I usually have way too much.

[ Kyoko had already gotten some kombu soaking for dashi, which she would have needed to make today anyway, so there wasn't a whole lot more preparation necessary. She does go ahead and start poking at her replicator for the bonito flakes and miso when she gets the text from sasuke. And then when he doesn't show up right away, there's some more poking, for tofu and vegetables.

She's just deciding she might as well go ahead and wash some rice, when the knock comes. Hustling over to the door, she has a grin ready as she opens it. ]

Hello! Ohh, Mr. Tori, too! Please come in!

[ She didn't know crows like to collect flowers, but that sure is adorable! ]

I think they're both just going to end up being wet sandwiches, though, you know? Are you really sure?

Sashimi...! Ugh, talking about it makes me crave them so much more! But even I know there's so many different kind of fish... Even if we request the up-grade thingy, it'd just be one kind of fish, right?

But yeah! I'll definitely let you know my comments when you let me taste them!

[ Sasuke smiles back, and Mr. Tori cocks his head in that way birds do. ]

[ Mr. Tori jumps off Sasuke to flutter into the house. He's a crow on a mission as he looks for something.... Kyoko will see him trying to put the flower stem into an empty mug. Not quite a vase but also able to do the job. He looks pleased at himself.

Well, Kyoko did say to come in. ]

they better be delicious, i'm the eldest son of a coal burner, so i'm good at heat checking and cooking

but more japanese food would be good! especially if we have the ingredients instead of ready made dishes. since you have more than enough ingredients for sukiyaki, maybe you can try making nikujaga or udon?

Yes.... that is surely what would happen. I wonder what they would do if we didn't specify, though? Something really strange might come out of the replicator! I'll appreciate your help! Just let me know when it's a good time, and I'll get right to work!

Oh no. Kyoko clutches at her chest, absolutely destroyed by the sweetness. ]

[ Sasuke is completely forgotten as Kyoko trails over to the crow, cooing. ]

Udon!! I can't believe I didn't think about that! Do you know how to make it? I know how it's done in theory, but I don't have a lot of practice. And actually, just now I was talking to Zenitsu-san about nikujaga! You should have some with us!
